Both the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500 are durable and capable trucks for the 2020 model year. While there are a few similarities between the models, such as with engine options, there are also some distinctions to make between the trucks. Based on their respective trim options, capabilities and design, the Silverado 1500 well exceeds the Sierra 1500.

Available Trim Levels

The 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 has six trim levels: base, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4 and Denali. On the other hand, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers eight trim levels, including Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and the refined High Country. By having more trims, the Silverado 1500 makes it easier for you to find the right combination of power and style. Plus, the Silverado 1500 trims each have distinct wheel designs, grilles and front fascias that help them stand out from other trucks.

Capabilities

If you're interested in towing a boat to the lake or towing on a worksite, the Silverado 1500 is the better choice for you. When properly equipped, the 2020 Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,400 pounds. Meanwhile, the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 can only tow up to 12,100 pounds. The Silverado 1500 also has the Durabed, which is made of high-strength steel and was designed to be both strong and light.

Bold Design

While drivers have personal preferences when it comes to the exteriors of trucks, the Silverado 1500 turns heads with its design. The High Country model, in particular, is stylish with LED headlamps, 20-inch wheels and a grille with a chrome finish. The Denali trim is the more luxurious option for the GMC Sierra 1500, but it doesn't have the same sleek look as the High Country trim.
